Description

Gateway, c.1820, comprising pair of rendered piers with cast-iron double gates having spear head finials, curved flanking walls with rendered terminating piers and rendered flanking boundary wall. Sections of stone cobbling to circumference.

Appraisal

This gateway and boundary wall is one of the most prominent features in Rathmore, being located in the centre of the village, and terminating the vista from most of the approach roads into the town. The gateway is a fine, if simple, design, providing a fitting entrance into the estate, and contains early surviving cast-iron gates of some artistic importance. The stone cobbling to some sections is also an important and rare survival.
