Description
Freestanding cast-iron vent pipe, c.1880, comprising fluted pedestal with inscription, moulded necking and cylindrical shaft over having moulded necking. Now disused. Road fronted on grass verge.
Appraisal
This vent pipe, which is now disused, is of social and historical importance, attesting to the late nineteenth-century sewage system built in Celbridge. The pipe now forms a subtle feature on the streetscape, and items of street furniture such as this are often overlooked by the passer-by.
