Burial ground with various cut-stone grave markers, c.1810-present, including Celtic Cross-style memorial to centre of site. Detached single-bay single-storey gable-fronted building, c.1880, to west with single-bay single-storey side elevations to north-west and to south-east. Gable-ended (gable-fronted) roof with cut-stone. Squared rubble stone walls. Cut-stone dressings including corner piers. Cut-stone plaque over entrance to north-east with Celtic Cross style motif over. Square-headed door opening. Cut-stone block-and-start surround. Glazed timber panelled door. Rubble stone boundary wall, c.1810, to site on a square plan with gateway to north-west comprising pointed-arch opening in cut-stone gabled surround.
This burial ground, established for the internment of priests who taught in or graduated from the seminary, is an attractive feature in the grounds of Saint Patrick’s College. The various cut-stone grave markers, and the Celtic Cross-style memorial in particular, are of artistic interest and represent a high quality of craftsmanship and stone masonry. The small-scale building to west, the original purpose for which is uncertain, reflects the emerging fashion for the Hiberno and Celtic Revival styles.
