Description
Gateway, c.1800, comprising pair of cut-stone piers with fluted friezes, moulded capping and pair of cut-stone terminating piers. Renovated, c.2000, with replacement cast-iron double gates and railings inserted.
Appraisal
This gateway is an attractive feature on the side of the road and contributes positively to the streetscape of Kinnegad Road. The construction of the gate piers attests to the high quality of stone masonry practised in the locality, and this is especially evident in the finely carved detailing that has retained a crisp intricacy. Although recently (c.2000) renovated, with replacement gates and railings added, these have been installed in keeping with the original integrity of the design.
