Two-arched road bridge, c.1885, over the River Dodder. Rock-faced cyclopean masonry. Coursed rubble to parapet. Projecting rock-faced breakwater and voussoirs. Canalised watercourse with concrete lining, forming four-step waterfall to west.
Built to designs by engineer Richard Hassard as part of the Rathmines and Rathgar water supply system, this rugged bridge follows a standard design. The municipal supply connected the Dodder, reservoirs at Glenasmole and other components in the 1880s. This bridge forms an important part of the historic urban infrastructure.
