Appraisal

A farmhouse representing an important component of the domestic built heritage of north County Wexford with the architectural value of the composition confirmed by such attributes as the deliberate alignment maximising on scenic vistas overlooking gently rolling grounds; the rectilinear plan form centred on a restrained doorcase demonstrating good quality workmanship, albeit one largely concealed behind an expressed porch; the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated tiered visual effect with the principal "apartments" or reception rooms defined by tripartite glazing patterns; and the high pitched roofline: meanwhile, aspects of the composition clearly illustrate the continued development of the farmhouse in the later nineteenth century. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding the character or integrity of the composition. Furthermore, adjacent outbuildings (extant 1904); a walled garden (extant 1839); and a nearby gate lodge (see 15701109), all continue to contribute positively to the group and setting values of a self-contained estate having historic connections with the Moore family including Ponsonby Arthur Moore (d. 1871) of London (The Dublin Almanac 1845, 280); and the Hanstock family including Dain Hanstock (1855-1928), 'Farmer' (NA 1911).
