Description

Passageway, extant 1840.

Appraisal

A passageway representing an important component of the built heritage of Wexford with origins allegedly dating back to 'streets [which] ran steeply down to the Norse waterfront'. A heritage plaque notes that 'The name Keyser's Lane appears in the Norse towns of Wexford Waterford and Dublin': King Olav V (1903-91) of Norway, in correspondence with the historian Dr. George Hadden (1882-1973), mentioned that Keyser's Lane was a direct translation from the Old Norse of "Lane to the Wharf".
