Description

Gateway, extant 1840, on a symmetrical plan with coursed "Old Red Sandstone" piers having ogee-detailed cut-limestone coping centred on voluted keystone framing wrought iron gate. Street fronted at entrance to grounds of Saint Selskar's Church.

Appraisal

A gateway making a pleasing visual statement at an entrance on to the grounds of Saint Selskar's Church with 'some rustic early seventeenth-century [stone] work' highlighting the archaeological potential of the composition (Craig and Garner 1973, 32).
