Description

Freestanding granite monument erected c.1800 by Edward Westby (1755-1838) to the memory of Nicholas Westby MP (1751-1800). The monument consists of a square panelled plinth with inscribed plaque, which is surmounted by a stepped pinnacle with urn-like finial. The monument is surrounded by simple metal railings and is set in a field to the south of the House of Our Lady of Africa [High Park] which was originally the home of the Westby family.

Appraisal

Well preserved monument of the early 1800s, unusual for the fact that it is one of the few such structures of this date in Wicklow to have been built on what were private grounds.
