Description

End-of-terrace three-bay two-storey shop, built c.1830; it has a private apartment over. To the south side of the east façade is a traditional shopfront which is framed with pilasters; the door is plain. To the south side is a panelled door with plain surround and fanlight which leads to the private apartments. Window openings are flat-headed with replacement top-hung timber frames. The pitched roof is finished with natural slate and cast-iron rainwater goods. The eaves are bracketed and chimneystacks are granite with corbelled caps and clay pots. The shop is road fronted; it is just outside the Square.

Appraisal

Despite the loss of original windows this building has retained much of its original character and contributes much to the 19th-century feel of the streetscape.
