Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1905, with raised “ER VII” royal cipher. Set in unpainted rendered section of random rubble stone boundary wall.
This post box is an attractive item of early-surviving mass-produced cast-iron work that makes a subtle impression in the streetscape. The various raised details enhance the design quality of the composition, while the royal cipher in particular is of importance as a tangible reminder of Ireland as part of the British Empire.
