Description

Gateway, c.1880, comprising pair of limestone ashlar piers with inscribed lettering, cut-stone capping, wrought iron double gates with spear-head finials, unpainted roughcast curved flanking walls, and unpainted roughcast flanking boundary walls having limestone ashlar quoins, and cut-limestone coping. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Weston (House).

Appraisal

An attractive gateway of simple appearance, incorporating fine stone work and early mass-produced wrought iron gates, which enhance the artistic design quality of the composition. The gateway forms an appealing, if discreet feature, in the streetscape of Newtown Road.
