Attached four-bay single-storey thatched cottage, c.1830, on a corner site retaining early fenestration. Extended, c.1980, comprising single-bay single-storey flat-roofed return to south. Pitched roof with reed thatch in English style having rope work to ridge, and replacement red brick Running bond chimney stacks, c.1980. Flat felt roof to return. Painted rendered walls. Square-headed window openings with stone sills, and 6/6 timber sash windows. Square-headed door opening with replacement tongue-and-groove timber panelled door, c.2000, having overlight. Road fronted on a corner site with concrete footpath to front.
An important component of the vernacular tradition in County Waterford, as identified by the informal arrangement of openings together with the thatched roof, this cottage has been very well maintained to present an early aspect on to the streetscape. However, the Georgian-style glazing to the window openings introduces a surprising formal tone to the composition. Once a predominant form of domestic architecture in the locality, the cottage remains as one of only two surviving examples in Ardmore (with 22827014/WD-40-27-14), which emphasises its importance.
