Description

Gateway, c.1870, comprising pair of cut-limestone piers with pyramidal capping, replacement wrought iron double gates, c.1970, and broken coursed squared rubble stone curved flanking walls with cut-stone coping, and cut-limestone outer piers. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Dunmore East Rectory.

Appraisal

A well-composed gateway forming an attractive feature in the street scene of Cuckaloo. The construction of the piers is indicative of high quality stone masonry, while the replacement gates apparently refer to the original models on site, and contribute the visual appeal of the composition.
