Description

Detached five-bay two-storey house, c.1870, built on site and possibly incorporating fabric of earlier house, pre-1840, retaining original fenestration with single-bay single-storey projecting porch to centre. Extended, c.1995, comprising single-bay two-storey lower return to north-west. Pitched slate roof (hipped to porch; artificial slate roof to return) with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, rendered coping, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Unpainted rendered, ruled and lined walls with rendered quoined piers to ends, paired rendered strips to porch, and unpainted cement rendered walls to return. Square-headed window openings with cut-stone sills. 1/1 timber sash windows having margins with one replacement uPVC casement window, c.1995, to porch. Square-headed door opening with two cut-stone steps, and replacement timber panelled door, c.1995. Set back from road in own grounds with landscaped grounds to site having unpainted rendered boundary wall with rendered piers, and wrought iron gate.

Appraisal

An elegantly-proportioned middle-size house retaining most of its original form and fabric, and which contributes to the streetscape value of Priest’s Road.
