Description

Six-arch limestone ashlar road bridge over river, built 1850. Limestone ashlar walls with rounded cut-waters to piers, cut-limestone stringcourse, and cut-stone coping to parapets. Series of five elliptical arches with limestone ashlar voussoirs, and cut-stone soffits having lime render over. Sited spanning River Blackwater with grass banks to river.

Appraisal

An elegant bridge forming an imposing landmark on the River Blackwater. The fine limestone ashlar attests to high quality stone masonry, while the construction of the arches that have retained their original profiles identifies the civil engineering heritage significance of the site.
