Appraisal

An appealing, small-scale house that is of significance having been built by the Duke of Devonshire as accommodation for workers on the Lismore Castle estate. Originally built as one of a terrace of six identical houses (including 22809042/WD-21-09-42), this house is the only example surviving that retains its original form and massing, although most of the original fabric has subsequently been replaced with inappropriate modern articles that do not enhance the external expression of the composition. The house, together with the remainder in the terrace, forms an attractive feature of low-lying quality in the streetscape of New Street.
