Wall-mounted cast-iron letter box, erected c. 1885, bearing crown and royal insignia of Victoria. Mounted in boundary wall of railway station.
An attractive item of street furniture which is in continuous use, and remains in good condition. This post box is a fine example of early mass-produced cast-iron. The raised lettering and royal cipher enhance the design quality of the composition, and is a reminder of when Ireland was part of the British Empire.
