Appraisal

Designed by the engineer, Alexander Nimmo (1783-1832), this finely-crafted harbour displays a high degree of technical skill in its design and masonry construction and is a handsome representative of the small coastal fishing harbour typology. The harbour, although with some recent modifications, is well preserved through continuous use. Fine detailing, such as cut limestone steps and mooring posts, represent important original survivals. The simple and well-constructed boat house is also of considerable interest. The harbour structures make an attractive group along with the, now derelict, coastguard station to the north-west.
