Description

Triple-arch stone road-over-river bridge, built c. 1810. Uncoursed rubble limestone walling. Segmental-arched openings, tooled ashlar voussoirs alternating long and short with long voussoirs slightly projecting, pointed pyramid-capped tooled ashlar cut-waters, wrought-iron ties with circular pattresses in arch spandrels, low rubble stone parapets, as-found stone block copings. Macadamed road surface. Plastic services pipe attached to east side. Located to north of village, grass banks to both sides.

Appraisal

This is a good example of early-nineteenth century road bridge which is unaltered and still in original use. An important structure at the north entrance to village, over the Douglas River.
