Description

End-of-terrace two-bay two-storey stone house, built 1886-7. One of a group of eleven. Pitched slate roof, clay ridge tiles, red brick chimneystack, cast-iron gutters on chamfered stone eaves corbel course, round downpipe. Squared and coursed rubble limestone walling, continuous first floor sill course, tooled and margined ashlar limestone quoins. Segmental-headed window openings, painted brickwork dressings, stone sills, wrought-iron window guard to ground floor, aluminium casement windows c. 1995. Segmental-headed door opening, painted brickwork dressings, hardwood six-panel door c. 1990, plain-glazed overlight. Street fronted, lower terrace to west.

Appraisal

This modest terraced house is part of a solid and unassuming terrace in an area which, otherwise, is largely non-residential. Masonry detailing is of a good standard. The original chimneystack survives. The wrought-iron window grille adds a distinctive note.
