Railway turntable, built 1929. No longer in use. Heavy iron girder rotating table with iron tracks flanked on both sides by timber planked gangways, tubular iron balustrading, brake lever. Set within sunken concrete-lined pit with iron bogey track on concrete ledge. Cast-iron embossed plaques to sub-frame with inscription, 'Ransomes & Rapier Ltd, R and R, Ipswich, England 1929'.
This turntable is a fine example of railway technology which, although no longer in use, remains reasonably intact. Its survival, within the station complex, contributes to the ensemble of original remaining artifacts and is also of considerable technical interest.
