Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1880. Banded shaft, domed head having foundry mark 'F. Robin[s]o[n] Monaghan', and fluted domed cap with ball finial. Plain spout, having bucket grip, and cow's tail handle, set on concrete plinth.

Appraisal

The unusual shape of this locally-cast water pump is enhanced by the placing of the foundry mark across the front. A communal water source for the locality, it played an important role in the social history of the area. Prominently sited on the roadside, this simple piece of street furniture makes an aesthetically-pleasing contribution to the streetscape of Ballinode.
