Cast-iron post box, erected c.1940, with moulded neck, cap and P & T insignia.

Appraisal

This mid twentieth-century post box is of a simple design, which has little decorative detailing. This functional object is representative of mid twentieth-century design. Post boxes of this period are becoming increasingly rare, as they are not afforded the protection of older boxes, though they are equally threatened by plastic replacements. The Celtic lettering is representative of the post Independence era in Ireland.
