Description

Pair of two-bay single-storey former gate lodges, built c.1835, now disused. Pitched slate or tile roofs. Roughly-dressed stone walls, with ashlar limestone quoins. Recessed arch to pedimented gable walls incorporating window opening with brick lintel. Ashlar limestone block-and-start doorcases. Brick dressings and stone sill to windows.

Appraisal

These gate lodges flank the entrance gates to the former Royal Irish Constabulary Barracks. Architectural design and detailing are apparent in the execution of this pair of former gate lodges. The form of the gable walls is of particular interest.
