Description

Six-arch road bridge, c.1750. Rendered rubble limestone walls with roughly dressed stone arch ring. Upstream side of bridge has triangular cutwaters. One cutwater is full-height and originally was a pedestrian refuge.

Appraisal

The combination of rubble and dressed limestone construction materials provides textural variation to road bridge. The former pedestrian refuge is an interesting feature of the bridge. It forms part of a group with the weirs, mill race and sluice gate downstream.
