Appraisal

A burial ground opened by the Kilkenny Poor Law Union (formed 1839) making a pleasing visual statement in a suburbanised street scene. NOTE: The burial ground was intended for pauper inmates of Kilkenny Union Workhouse whose graves were unmarked and the only headstones are two standard "Commonwealth War Graves" commemorating Private James Tobin (d. 1917) and Serjeant James Kavanagh (d. 1918) and a later headstone commemorating Mary Delaney (d. 1950).
