Description

Section of rubble stone boundary wall, c.1850, with remains of lime render over having vertical coping and cast-iron gate with ‘Fleur-de-Lys’ finials.

Appraisal

This section of rubble stone boundary wall is a fine example of the once prolific, but increasingly rare, traditional method of constructing boundary walls. Replacement or modern boundary walls are frequently built with less attention paid to stone masonry traditions.
