Description

Irregular-plan quay, built c.1840, having rubble limestone walls to north and south, and grassy surface, with roughly hewn limestone mooring posts.

Appraisal

This simply designed and built quay reflects the former importance of commercial maritime activity in Galway Bay and remains an attractive landmark in the locality. One of several quays and piers in the South Galway area, it would have been important for fishing and seaweed gathering in the nineteenth century.
