Description

Freestanding L-plan bathing shelter, built c.1950, with diving tower to southeast end. Painted concrete walls having painted rendered canopy at roof level supported on painted metal columns. Painted rendered bench seating under canopy. Corner maintenance room having two square-headed door openings with battened timber doors. Built on natural rock outcrop with poured concrete steps and walkways.

Appraisal

Located at the western end of Salthill promenade, this shelter provides an area with easy access to the popular diving boards and swimming area at Blackrock. Its robustly modern materials have been used to produce a structure of surprising elegance that enhances the shorescape.
