Description

Single-arch bridge, built c.1770, carrying demesne road across Abbert River. Piers and walls of rougly-faced limestone, with margined hammer-dressed voussoirs and having wrought-iron railings to parapets, terminated by ruble limestone piers.

Appraisal

This bridge forms part of an interesting and complete range of demesne structures associated with Brook Lodge country house, the others being outbuildings and gateway at one end of the bridge, demesne roads and an icehouse, as well as the roofless sheel of the country house itself. The varied treatment of the stonework of the bridge enhances its appearance.
