Description

Entrance gates to former country house, erected c.1840, having curved flanking elements with rock-faced plinth walls supporting decorative cast-iron railings and having chamfered ashlar granite piers at outer and inner ends, all piers having lanterns and inner piers supporting decoartive cast-iron vehicular gates. Gate lodge adjoins to west.

Appraisal

This fine entrance gateway, announcing Ardilaun House, formerly the country house of the Pearse distilling family, displays fine craftsmanship in the quality of its stone plinth walls, and its cast-iron railings and gates. Along with the gate lodge and country house, it forms a fine demesne group.
