Description

Gateway, extant 1837, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of granite ashlar piers on cut-granite plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices on swag-detailed friezes on key-detailed entablatures below capping supporting spear head-detailed double gates with granite ashlar outer piers on cut-granite plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below capping. Repositioned. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Newtownpark House.

Appraisal

A gateway 'in the manner of Thomas Cooley [1742?-84]' (Dean 2016, 137) making a pleasing visual statement in a suburban street scene at the "new" entrance on to the grounds of the Newtownpark House estate.
