Freestanding rectangular-plan carved granite horse trough, erected c. 1900, having chamfered lip and divided into two parts with smaller section to north end. Trough supported on granite riser blocks. Inscription to west face dedicated to horses. Flanked by round-plan granite jostle stones. Trough set at bend in street.
This horse trough is one of only three remaining in the Dublin metropolitan area. It is an attractive piece of street furniture and has been well preserved. The inscription on the side lends contextual interest, and the simple chamfered edges provide subtle decorative interest. It articulates the curve of this historic street and is a reminder of the pre-motor era.
