Description

White marble statue, unveiled 1898 to memory of Robert Prescott Stewart (1825-1894), dressed in academic robes of doctor of music, resting right hand on harp and holding sheet of music in left. Monument stands at south side of National Gallery of Ireland, close to southeast corner. Inscription to base at right hand side reads 'Sir Thos. Farrell PRHA Sculp. Dublin'. Currently boxed in for protection during construction works at Leinster House.

Appraisal

Statue, by Thomas Farrell, dedicated to the memory of Robert Stewart, composer, conductor, organist, pedagogue and music professor. It was unveiled 15th March 1898 by the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Earl Cadogan.
