Appraisal

Robert Emmet was a member of the United Irishmen, and led an attempted rebellion against British rule in 1803. He was subsequently captured, tried for treason and executed in front of Saint Catherine’s Church on 20th September 1803. This monument marks the site of his death, adding to the building's historic setting. The carefully carved and detailed profile adds artistic value to the streetscape.
