Description

Freestanding cast-iron pillar post box, erected c.1935, with raised 'P&T' monogram to door, raised lettering to neck and dentillated cornice to cap. Maker's mark 'Carron Company Stirlingshire' to rear (west) side of base.

Appraisal

An attractive item of street furniture located at the intersection of the Old Cabra Road and Glenbeigh Road. Supplied by the Carron Company (1922-present) of Stirlingshire, the post box is an example of the high quality of mass-produced cast-iron work in the early twentieth century. The raised Post and Telegraphs insignia, lettering reading 'Next Delivery’, moulded handle and dentillated cornice adorn the post box.
