Hand operable steel rail freight loading crane, c.1900, mounted on platform of former railway goods building. Consists of a round boom, boom line, loading hook, winches, brake and turntable.
A historic piece of railway machinery which facilitates a deeper understanding of how the railway station worked in the past. Along with the goods and engine sheds, the crane demonstrates the former role of the railways in the transportation of freight and is an important part of industrial heritage. It is unusual for machinery to survive in situ, and it adds much to the station's context and setting.
