Description

Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, installed c.1905. Having crown and royal cipher of Edward VII in raised relief with illegible markers mark. Set in rendered and exposed limestone rubble wall with red brick surround.

Appraisal

This fine post box, with its simple design, is an interesting example of early twentieth-century mass-produced cast-iron street furniture. The raised lettering and royal cipher enhance the artistic quality of the composition and allow it to be dated to the reign of British monarch Edward VII.
