Appraisal

This post box displays the post-independence insignia of the Department of Post and Telegraphs, which was brought in when the Irish Free State established its own postal system. Its Celtic Revival lettering, which was adopted by the government for many official purposes in the early decades of the State, is a reminder of the interest in promoting national identity following independence from Britain.
