Single-arch road bridge, built c.1870, spanning tributary. Coursed rubble stone walls and parapets, with rounded rendered coping and having roughly dressed limestone voussoirs to round-headed arch.
Unusually tall, Gurteen Bridge is a well-designed and finely executed bridge. It serves as a reminder of the quality of the engineering and local craftsmanship in the nineteenth century. The bridge was constructed when the main Macroom to Bandon road was diverted to avoid passing the gable of Gurteen House, which was then apparently owned by an engineer with influential connections.
