Description

Wall-mounted cast-iron letter box, installed c.1880, bearing crown and royal cipher of Queen Victoria.

Appraisal

This fine post box is an attractive item of street furniture which has remained in use and in good condition. It is a fine example of early mass-produced cast-iron street furniture. Raised lettering and a royal cipher add a degree of artistic interest, and also serve as a reminder of Ireland's former part in the British Empire.
