Description

Terraced two-bay three-storey former house, built c.1820, with recent timber shopfront to front (south) elevation. Now in use as restaurant. Pitched slate roof with overhanging eaves, having rendered chimneystack and cast-iron rainwater goods. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with moulded render string course to second floor. Camber-headed window openings having render sills and two-over-two pane sliding sash windows to upper floors. Recent timber shopfront, having square-headed window openings with fixed timber-framed display windows and overlights, returning to recessed door opening, over timber panelled stall risers. Square-headed door opening to recessed porch with double-leaf glazed timber doors.

Appraisal

Though altered at ground floor level, this former house is of a similar scale and proportion to many of the buildings in the town's historic core, and remains an integral part of the terrace. Its upper floors retain wide eaves, camber-headed opening, timber sliding sash windows and lined-and-ruled rendered walls which add to its traditional character.
