Description

Terraced five-bay three-storey former house, built c.1820, now in use as shop. Pitched slate roof with rendered rubble stone chimneystack, rendered eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with render quoins. Square-headed window openings with render sills to front (west) elevation, having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Timber shopfront comprising unadorned and channelled pilasters, surmounted by architrave, frieze and cornice with scrolled end consoles. Square-headed window openings having fixed timber-framed display windows with carved colonettes to southern-bay windows, later timber glazing bars to window to northern bay window. Doric supporting columns to interior. Square-headed door openings having glazed timber door surmounted by overlight and timber panelled door surmounted by blind overlight.

Appraisal

A fine building with an expansive façade which is an unusual feature in the narrow streetscape. The lined-and-rendered walls, quoins and timber sliding sash windows add much to its character, while the full width shopfront makes a handsome addition.
