Description

Freestanding cast-iron pillar post box, c.1935, with raised P&T monogram, moulded necking, dentilated frieze and shallow domed cap.

Appraisal

This cast-iron post box, which is still in use, is an attractive item of street furniture and represents a notable example of the high quality of mass-produced cast-iron work. The raised Gaelic script lettering was used by government for many official purposes in the early decades of the state.
