Description

Five-bay three-storey hospital complex, c. 1762, with three-bay fronts and various later single- and two-storey extensions and a detached lodge, bounded by rubble sandstone and limestone wall. Slate pitched and hipped-roof to main block. Flat roof with rooflights to prefab unit.

Appraisal

Important as the central and earliest building of one of Cork's first hospitals, the Trustees of which were incorporated in 1722. The boundary wall retains its original appearance in areas, but the principal buildings have been much altered, with the loss of windows, doors, and many internal features. The building's continuing use as a hospital adds further to its significance.
