Custodians and owners of historic structures and protected structures may now apply for up to €50,000 in grant funding under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2026. Owners of historic thatched buildings, commercial or domestic, may now apply for up to €20,000 in grant funding under the dedicated Historic Thatched Buildings Stream of the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2026.
Ireland’s built heritage contributes to the vitality of our cities, towns, villages and countryside whilst instilling a sense of pride of place. The Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) helps custodians and owners of historic structures and protected structures meet their obligations in caring for Ireland’s built heritage.
The BHIS 2026 is administered by the local authorities and those intending to apply should contact their local Architectural Conservation Officer for advice and assistance or their local Heritage Officer if their local authority does not employ and Architectural Conservation Officer.
