The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage has partnered with Galway County Council to create Wonder Wander walking trails.  The Wonder Wander walking trails have been developed in collaboration with the local communities.  In addition to well-known public buildings, each trail shines a light on some of the lesser known architectural details and the stories that are associated with these unique places.

The Wonder Wander for brilliant Ballinasloe is bustling with heritage hotspots.  The trail begins at Ballinasloe Library, the former Convent of Mercy, before climbing Church Hill to Saint John’s whose clock was a gift to the people of the town.  An amble through Main Street takes in the birthplace of Supermac’s before pausing at the so-called “lazy wall” – a place where locals traditionally gathered to sit and chat about the latest happenings in town and further afield.  Moving on to Fair Green, the site where the annual horse fair takes place each October, the trail ends with a serenade to the showband era at the Emerald Ballroom.
