Description

Wall-mounted spring fountain, c.1850, comprising round-headed recess in unpainted rendered wall over random rubble stone construction with cut-stone trough plinth, cut-stone surround supporting cut-stone voussoirs, unpainted rendered recess having aperture to spring, and stringcourse supporting rubble stone coping to parapet. Road fronted.

Appraisal

A picturesque, if subtle feature in the streetscape exhibiting fine cut-stone detailing while representing an artefact of particular significance in the architectural heritage of Inistioge on account of the status as an early-surviving means of providing water from a local source or spring in the mid nineteenth century.
