78 built heritage projects are to benefit from \u20ac4 million in funding under the Historic Structures Fund 2022 administered by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in partnership with thirty-one local authorities.\u00a0 The funding follows the \u20ac4 million in funding recently announced under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Historic Structures Fund (HSF) will support custodians and owners of protected structures in maintaining and safeguarding their historic properties with grants, ranging from \u20ac15,000 to \u20ac200,000, assisting in essential conservation and repair works including casement and sash window repair, conservation of joinery and iron work, repointing stone work, roof repairs and thatching.\u00a0 The HSF will provide a welcome boost to conservation professionals and specialist tradespeople, including stone masons and thatchers, by facilitating works with a total value of almost \u20ac8 million involving an estimated 22,400 days’ labour.<\/p>\n

The HSF will assist in the conservation and repair of a wide variety of historic properties and protected structures and, in addition to private houses, projects awarded funding include a bridge, cathedrals and churches, farmyards and stables, a mausoleum, a mill and a shrine.<\/p>\n

\u20ac40,000 has been awarded for the repair of the iron work and the lime pointing of the stone work of the turreted gateway (1813) at Borris House in County Carlow; \u20ac32,848 has been awarded for the restoration of the curvilinear glasshouse at Mount Anville in D\u00fan Laoghaire-Rathdown; \u20ac50,000 has been awarded for the repair of the old lifeboat station, Knightstown, County Kerry; \u20ac47,263 has been awarded for the conservation of the pedestal of the Treaty Stone (1865) in Limerick; \u20ac15,000 has been awarded to address defects at the mid nineteenth-century Ballymote Presbyterian Church, Graniamore, in County Sligo.<\/p>\n

\u20ac100,000 has been awarded under Stream 2 to 20 Dominick Street Lower (1758-60), Dublin 1, for urgent roof repairs and for the inspection and repair of its outstanding plasterwork; \u20ac92,000 has been awarded for emergency conservation of the pier (1826-30) at B\u00e9al an Mhuirthead [Belmullet] in County Mayo.<\/p>\n

Five shopfronts and five vernacular properties will benefit from funding under the Historic Shopfronts Stream and Vernacular Structures Stream.\u00a0 Six larger projects awarded funding over two years under the HSF 2021 will also receive funding from the \u20ac4 million allocation.<\/p>\n
